~Welcome to SEED Initiative Blog~

Closure to SEED Initiative 08/09

Hey guys,

It has been a very long time since we updated this blog. Well, kinda busy with stuff and studies. Haha. Anyway, we have just ended our term as the organizing committees of SEED Initiative 08/09 with the SEED Initiative Forum 2009 as our last event. The forum was indeed a successful one with a turnup of more than 200 university undergraduates. Whoa!!! Thanks to the great speakers we had (Assoc. Prof. Habshah, Miss Jenna Loh, & Mr. Michael Teoh) and we really do appreciate your time spent in sharing your experiences with all of us here in UUM! Thank you so much!

Just for some additional info, the SEED Initiative Conference will be postponed and also organized by a new bunch of enthusiastic organizing committees. It's sad that we did not hold the conference during our term but at least, we are proud to have organized the SEED Initiative Exhibition and also the SEED Initiative Forum. We have learned alot through this project and we hope our existence in UUM did create an impact in the students regarding the issue social entrepreneurship. Well at least we hope the students in UUM know the word "social entrepreneurship"...

Lastly, to all people out there who has supported us in a way or so, thank you so much for your patience and guidance in this project. And to all organizing committees of SEED Initiative 08/09, thanks for staying on and having faith in this project and all the best for your final examinations coming soon in this April. And to all people out there reading this post, remember that no matter how small a person is, he or she can make a difference in this world and change the world into a better place for all to live in!

Hola 2009!!

It has been a long pause since the last time I posted something up here. Well, since it’s the New Year, let me begin first by conveying my very best wishes from SEED Initiative to all of you out there t o have a enjoyable and fulfilling year in 2009. HAPPY NEW YEAR!!! Goodbye 2008! Let us welcome the year 2009 with open hearts and renewed courage to face whatever that has in store for us in this New Year.

In December, the SEED Initiative has organized a SEED Training Camp at the USM Guest House in Penang to build bonds among the organizing committee members and also of course, to deepen our knowledge in social entrepreneurship. We had various sessions in the camp. Sessions about Social Entrepreneurship, ice-breaking, team-building, marketing and also project planning sessions were conducted by invited speakers, Encik Nasir Sabri & Cik Siti Huraizah from Pusat Internet Desa, our Project Director, Andy and also our lovely interns, Miek from The Netherlands and Susan from Australia. Thanks to them, we are now more knowledgeable about the issue on social entrepreneurship and also better prepared to organize the upcoming SEED Conference in May 2009.

This is Miek receiving a present from Andy!!

Susan, from China but studying in Australia happily receiving the pressie from Andy

This camp has really brought all of us together. We played Mafia together, spend sleepless nights pillow-talking, laughed together and our direction in 2009 is now set on the same path. We enjoy working together as a team and it is the hope of every of us to see the SEED Conference 2009 become a reality and a success.

Now, most of us are back to UUM. Really looking forward to our next committee meeting. Till then, See ya!!

URGENT Announcement from SEED Initiative 2008!

Dear all,

This is an urgent announcement from us. Please read on.
First of all, Thank you for your interest in the SEED Initiative Seminar 2008.

The response was certainly heartwarming and encouraging. Despite this, we, the organizing committee decided that it will only be wise to postpone this event to mid 2009. We do not want to bring you a mediocre event and with the recent circumstances, the preparations for this event were forced to a level of mediocrity that we wanted to avoid.

Please accept our apologies for this postponement. We will certainly ensure that next year’s event will be worth your time. Thank you for your continual support for the SEED Initiative Seminar 2008. Do bookmark us, http://www.uum-seed.blogspot.com/ for more updates regarding the SEED Initiative Seminar Series.

Yours sincerely,
Organizing Committees,

Our Logo

The circle around the logo symbolizes the earth. We hope to see SEED Initiative making positive impact to the global society. You may ask, 'How SEED is going to do so?'. What we do is that we empower youths from different pools of background to come together and join hands to become positive change agents in the society in order to tackle social issues around the globe through social entrepreneurship.

The wave thingy symbolizes our people’s drive and passion to act as a catalyst to the youths in creating positive changes in the society by tackling social problems. We, as the “catalyst” hope to spark the awareness in youths today regarding the social ills and hence, empowering them to bring waves of changes in the world by challenging their own boundaries and taking the first step by becoming a social entrepreneur. Our drive and passion as SEEDers will continue across time and space as SEED is an ongoing project, being able to bring impact to these youths and as time passes, we’ll become a learning network and be able to succeed in our vision in molding future social entrepreneurs.

Orange denotes the youth. Youth are lively, vibrant and vivacious.

Blue signifies peace, love & freedom. It’s what everyone wants in their life. And every problem arises because of the lack of these elements. That is how SEED is going to help to make better the current situation.

Green, which has the same attributes like blue suggests the feeling of harmony the youths want to create around the world through social entrepreneurship.

Tagline: Catalyzing Changes
SEED Initiative’s vision is to empower youths by becoming positive change agents in addressing social problems through social entrepreneurship. So, what we want to do is to make the youths of today become positive change agents in the society through social entrepreneurship.

  • SEEDers as catalysts increase the rate of reaction – We empower youths to become positive change agents in addressing social problems through social entrepreneurship. We spread the word about social entrepreneurship; increase the awareness of the youths regarding social entrepreneurship, hoping that the youths will react and in no time, bring a positive impact to the global society.
  • SEEDers as catalysts are not consumed by the reaction – Yes, our vision is to empower youths by becoming positive change agents in addressing social problems through social entrepreneurship. We must ensure that as we try to act as a catalyst in creating changes, we, ourselves must stay focus with our vision and mission and ensure our drive and passion can catalyze the reaction over and over again.
  • A small quantity of SEEDers as catalyst should be able to affect the rate of reaction for a large amount of reactant - We believe that to empower the youths to become positive change agents, we only need a small amount of us to bring the impact in a thousand of youths. We act as a catalyst to the changes that the youths will make by bringing them the awareness regarding social entrepreneurship and also providing them with the education, assistance & avenues in the early steps of becoming a social entrepreneur. We hope to affect the youths to make them aware of the social problems in the world like a virus, thus indirectly prompting the youths to bring positive changes and stop living as a nobody.

Thus, we bring the youths one step closer in becoming social entrepreneurs by empowering them to make changes in the society through social entrepreneurship. Moreover, social entrepreneurship is all about changing the world and making profit.

This is a slideshow of our EXHIBITION! Check it out!

SEED Initiative Exhibition 2008

SEED Initiative Exhibition 2008 was held from the 19th - 21st of October 2008 at the Library's Foyer of Universiti Utara Malaysia (UUM). The objective of the exhibition was to create awareness among the undergraduates of UUM regarding the social problems that plagued the world and how social entrepreneurship plays its role in changing the world.

We also had a talk by Mr. Devan Singaram from the Elevyn Project about social entrepreneurship. His talk was inspiring and it gave us more insight about social entrepreneurship and how a simple business idea can create big scaled effects to solve a community problem. Glad to have him in UUM!

The organizing committees of SEED Initiative 2008 wish to thank those who have contributed to the exhibition and also to the project in a way or so. You guys rock! Well, now we have to focus on our upcoming SEED Initiative Seminar 2008 which is going to be held from the 16th - 17th of December 2008 in the Pearl of the Orient of Malaysia: Penang Island! More updates regarding the seminar will be posted soon! (for the moment, I'm busy with my accounting assignmentSSss)

Hope to see you there!
This is our very first promotional video for SEED Initiative. Sit back and enjoy!
